A bit like Tai Chi
The sea moves rhythmically
Ebbing and flowing

Cwm Pennant
‘Why Lord, did you make Cwm Pennant so beautiful
And the life of an old shepherd so short.’
(Translation from a Welsh poem by Eifion Wyn.)
Late bluebells carpet one side of the valley –
The other side is dotted white with sheep.
Grey slate from an old mine runs down the slope
into the garden of a derelict cottage.
One morning the miners woke up and left
Mother Nature to clear up the mess.
You hear a shepherd calling to his dog,
and the distant sound of children laughing –
You remember it well –
The rat-a-tat-tat of the cattle grid –
The place where you park the car –
The stream too cold to swim in –
The slate detritus and the grazing sheep.
Cwm Pennant is the same, but different.
Now when you look in your rear-view mirror,
You see the back seat is empty.

If any poem strikes a chord with you, tell me. Only I will see it.
